Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling is a non-surgical and minimally invasive treatment that can reduce the appearance of skin laxity, wrinkles and lines, and skin texture concerns such as acne scars.

How RF Microneedling Works

The Lutronic Genius RF device is an advanced microneedling system equipped with a series of very thin gold-plated needles. During the treatment, a handheld device containing the needles is passed over the skin. The needles create small wounds across the skin known as microchannels. This process triggers the skin’s natural healing response and is the product of essential structural proteins like elastin and collagen. During the process, the needles are also emitting radiofrequency energy at various depths into the skin tissue. The RF energy will further stimulate collagen production in the skin. This will help to tighten the skin, provide it with more elasticity, and improve its structure.

Treatment Process

Consultation

The treatment area will first be evaluated by one of our medical aesthetic providers. We will discuss goals and treatment plans and make recommendations accordingly.

Treatment

A topical anesthetic will be applied to the treatment area for approximately 45 minutes at which time it will be removed and the entire treatment area prepped with alcohol. The provider will then use the handheld device across the treatment area, creating several passes of microchannels while emitting RF at various depths of the skin. Pinpoint bleeding is completely normal during this process. Once complete, a protective post-treatment cream will be applied to the treatment area, and ice packs will be applied to soothe the treated skin. This procedure is mildly uncomfortable and takes about 35 minutes to complete.

Pre and Post-Treatment Do’s and Don’ts

Do

Avoid direct sun exposure for 7 days prior to treatment. Use only the post-cream provided three times daily for five days following treatment. Have a gentle cleanser available at home.

Don’t

Have an active sunburn. Use retinol or hydroquinone for two weeks prior to treatment.

Is this treatment right for me?

This treatment is great for candidates with loose or crepey skin or acne scarring that are not ready or do not want surgical correction.

How soon will I see results?

You will see visible improvement of your skin texture by 7 days post-treatment, maximum results are achieved 6 weeks following the last treatment.

Is this treatment painful?

A topical anesthetic will be applied to reduce discomfort during treatment.

How often should I receive this treatment?

The treatment protocol is 3 treatments over the course of 3 months and one maintenance treatment per year to maintain results.

How long will results last?

Most patients receive a series of three treatments over three months and maintain results through the use of medical-grade skin care and one treatment per year.

Should I plan for downtime?

Upon leaving the office, your skin will appear sunburned and remain pink for several hours following treatment. By the following day, you could remain slightly pink with minor swelling and minimal evidence of the treatment. We recommend no makeup for 24 hours post-treatment.
