Fine lines and wrinkles are some of the most common signs of facial aging. While they are caused by a variety of factors, one of the biggest contributing factors is muscle movement. When you make any facial expression, you engage the muscle groups causing them to contract. When the facial muscles contract, the skin that lays above these muscles is scrunched together which causes visible wrinkles and lines to form. With repeated facial muscle use over the years, these fine lines and wrinkles can become much more prominent.

Neurotoxins such as Botox and Dysport are injectable products used to relax muscle movement causing this particular sign of aging. This quick and effective treatment can be used in various areas of the face such as the forehead, crows feet, and bunny lines.

How Neurotoxins Work

Neurotoxins such as Botox and Dysport block the signal from the nerve to the muscle causing it to contract. Over a period of time, this limited muscle movement will soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles of the face and neck.

Treatment Process

Consultation

The treatment area will first be evaluated by one of our medical aesthetic providers. We will discuss goals and treatment plans and make recommendations accordingly. Cost, anticipated results, and memberships will be discussed at this time. Should you be interested, you may proceed with treatment after your consultation.

Treatment

Photos of the treatment area both at rest and with movement will first be taken. The area will be prepped with an alcohol wipe. You will be asked to make a variety of facial expressions and the muscle groups causing the wrinkles will be injected. You will walk out with what appear to be small insect bites from injecting fluid beneath the skin. This will resolve in approximately 15 minutes. Results will be apparent 2 days to 2 weeks following treatment.

Pre and Post-Treatment Do’s and Don’ts

Do

Take Tylenol if experiencing headaches.

Don’t

Lay down flat for 6 hours following treatment. Wear makeup or exercise for 24 hours following treatment. Get a facial for 2 weeks.

Is this treatment right for me?

This treatment is great for candidates looking to reduce fines lines and wrinkles caused by muscle movement.

How soon will I see results?

Results can be noticed as soon as two days; however, maximum results are achieved at two weeks. If you have resting lines (lines visible without movement) treatment will soften lines but it may take one year of consistent Botox to significantly improve.

Is this treatment painful?

You will experience several small pinches around the treatment area, but it is overall very tolerable and only takes mere minutes.

How often should I receive this treatment?

The average patient returns every 3-4 months for their Botox treatment.

How long will results last?

Results will last 3-6 months.

Should I plan for downtime?

Most patients walk out with what appear to be small insect bites from injecting fluid beneath the skin. This will typically resolve in minutes. Bruising can occur but is not common.
