Laser skin resurfacing is a non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatment that can be used to treat common skin concerns like wrinkles, fine lines, sunspots, acne scars, pore size, and skin texture.

How Laser Resurfacing Works

The Lutronic Ultra laser system uses a thulium laser to perform non-ablative skin resurfacing. The laser is passed over the skin where it creates microscopic wounds across the skin. This stimulates the skin healing response and the production of collagen and elastin. Laser skin resurfacing can treat fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin tone, correct uneven skin texture, reduce pore size, and treat sunspots and acne scars.

Treatment Process

Consultation

Treatment area will first be evaluated by one of our medical aesthetic providers. We will discuss goals and treatment plans and make recommendations accordingly.

Treatment

Depending on treatment parameters and goals, the entire treatment area may be numbed for approximately 15 minutes prior to treatment. It will then be cleansed with alcohol in preparation for the laser. The treatment area will then be treated using a rolling technique several times over the designated area. Once complete, a protective post-treatment cream will be applied to the treatment area, and ice packs may be applied for soothing the warmth caused by treatment. This procedure feels like warm prickles but is very well tolerated and takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Pre and Post-Treatment Do’s and Don’ts

Do

Avoid direct sunexposure for 7 days prior to treatment. Use only the post cream provided three times daily for five days following treatment. Have a gentle cleanser available at home.

Don’t

Have an active sunburn. Use retinol or hydroquinone for two weeks prior to treatment.

Is this treatment painful?

The treatment feels like tingly heat and is well tolerated by patients. Numbing is offered for higher treatment parameters as well.

How often should I receive this treatment?

The treatment protocol is 3 treatments over the course of 3 months.

How long will results last?

Most patients receive a series of three treatments over three months and maintain results by the use of medical-grade skin care and one treatment per year. Decreased sun exposure and regular use of sunscreen also help to maintain treatment results.

Should I plan for downtime?

Upon leaving the office, your skin will appear sunburned and remain pink for several hours following treatment. By the following day, you could remain slightly pink with minimal evidence of the treatment. We recommend no makeup for 24 hours post treatment. On days 2-5 your skin will feel rough to the touch, similar to sandpaper but without any visible signs of treatment. From days 5-7 your skin will begin to feel smooth to the touch, and signs of photo damage with be diminished, and the skin will be more vibrant and even-toned.
