Kybella is the only FDA-approved injectable used to permanently dissolve small pockets of fat. Its active ingredient is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. Once injected into a small fat pad it destroys the fat cells so that they can no longer store or accumulate fat.

How Kybella Works

Kybella is a synthetic deoxycholic acid that once injected into a pocket of fat it will begin to break it down allowing a reduction in appearance over time.

Treatment Process

Consultation

Treatment area will first be evaluated by one of our medical aesthetic providers. We will discuss goals and treatment plans and make recommendations accordingly. Cost, anticipated result, and treatment alternatives will be discussed at this time. Should you be interested, you may proceed with treatment after your consultation.

Treatment

Photos of the treatment area will be taken. The area will be prepped with an alcohol wipe. A series of injections approximately 1 cm apart will go into the pocket of fat covering the entire area. A minute or so following treatment you will feel a burning like sensation in the treatment area that will last a few minutes following the procedure. Injection site bruising and swelling can occur and last up to two weeks.

Do

Use arnica to reduce bruising and swelling.

Don’t

Apply ice. Apply makeup in the area or exercise for 24 hours following treatment. Get a facial for 2 weeks.

How soon will I see results?

Most patients require 3-4 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Results are typically noticed 4 weeks after the first treatment and maximum results are achieved 4 weeks following the last treatment.

Is this treatment painful?

Treatment with Kybella consists of several pokes in the treatment area followed shortly by a burning sensation that will last approximately two minutes.

How long will results last?

Results are permanent, pending weight remains stable.

Should I plan for downtime?

Most patients will walk out with localized injection site swelling and potential bruising. Following treatment, the area will become more swollen and remain that way for several days following treatment. The treatment area is commonly sore to the touch and numb for up to two weeks.
