NEW FAIRFIELD — As a plastic reconstruction physician assistant at a hospital working primarily with trauma patients, Brittney Bernardini has seen and learned a lot about aesthetics over the years.
Still serving in that role at Westchester Medical Center, Bernardini also recently branched out into small-business ownership, focusing on the lighter side of aesthetics. Liv Aesthetics Medical Spa, located at 90 Route 39, opened about a month ago and is the first solo business venture for Bernardini.
“It’s not terribly large, but it’s boutiquey and quaint,” she said. “I want people to be relaxed when they leave, but also feel like they got something out it.”
Liv Aesthetics offers services such as massage, waxing, spider vein treatment, facials, peels, laser hair reduction, injectables and skin tightening. It also specializes in coolsculpting, a non-invasive fat reduction procedure.
“I offer pretty much everything there is to offer, other than surgeries, and even then I have a medical director who can do surgery,” Bernardini said. “All equipment and services are medical-grade quality. I invested a lot in this and they get results.”
Liv Aesthtics also has its own skin-care line for products such as moisturizers, acne care and anti-aging.
“I’ve used the products for seven years,” she said. “I know it’s good.”
Liv Aesthetics employs two aestheticians, a massage therapist and a nurse. Because she has a medical spa, Bernardini also has a medical director.
“They’re local and that’s important,” she said of creating jobs with her business.
Bernardini and her husband own the property and hope to open a creamery and café next door to Liv Aesthetics. They also own Icons Sports Bar & Grill on the adjacent property, which used to be Carriage House.
“We basically want to make a little village,” she said.
As a new small-business owner, Bernardini has visited other local businesses to introduce herself and look for potential networking opportunities.
“The months leading up to summer and the holidays are typically the most popular times for this type of business,” she said.
Although they are Westchester County residents, Bernardini and her husband, along with other family members, recently purchased a home on Candlewood Lake in New Fairfield. The family has been visiting the area years.
“New Fairfield is near and dear to us,” she said. “Now we are in the heart of it. It’s our second home.”
